Development[]

Idea for Swapped began with Jim Anderson who envisioned film as body swap animated comedy. Film enter development in 2003, with Anderson and Kirk Wise as film directors with tentative release scheduled for 2007 release. Originally, film was title Dave And Joe and had completely different story. This version of story had body swap of relationship between construction work name Dave and music name Joe. However, when BJ And Wally was in production, Universal Animation president Jeff Segal decided that project should focus on relationship between boy and girl rather than 2 men. Because of this, film was put on hold due to several rewrites and Computeropolis 2 assumed July 6, 2007 release date originally scheduled for Dave And Joe. Anderson and Wise left project in 2006 follow disputes over film creative direction, and were replaced by Larry Huber, animator know for his history as producer at Hanna Barbera, Ruby Spears, and Nickelodeon also creator of Nickelodeon Chalkzone, and Jess Riol, producer on BJ And Wally.

In 2006, new film was announced as Swapped with it new story originally evolving Lee Webb as lead role and Suz Grady was essentially his next door neighbor. Release date was scheduled for 2008. For while, filmmakers were very committed to that version of story, but in 2006, they realized film plot would be more engaging if they reversed roles to instead focus on Suz as opposed to Lee.
