Quest is 2012 American 3D computer animated fantasy action adventure comedy film produced by Universal Animation Studios for Universal Pictures. 16 animated features in Universal Animation Studios canon, it was directed by Audel LaRoque, Karey Kirkpatrick, and John France (in his directional debut), from screenplay by Kirkpatrick, Thomas Lennon, Len Blum, Joe Stillman, and Ben Queen, and story by LaRoque. It features voices of Elijah Wood, Simon Pegg, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Michael Clarke Duncan (in his final role), Danny McBride, with Jennifer Tilly, and Alan Tudyk. Film is set in ancient medieval times, where evil lord Glomos captures Princess Pela soul using spellbinding crystal ball. young prince and wannabe swordsman name Ri sets out to rescue Pela and save Wonder Kingdom from Glomos psychic control.
Quest premiere on November 19, 2012, at Westwood Village Theater in Los Angeles, and was release in US on December 7, 2012, in 2D, 3D and RealD 3D formats. It was met with positive reviews from critics, with praise for animation, story, direction, and voice. It was box office success, grossing $524 million worldwide against budget of $97 million. TV series titled Quest: Adventures of Ri premiere on Netflix on October 7, 2016.

Production[]
Concept for Quest was conceived by Audel LaRoque in 2006, while directing Computeropolis 2. Rest of team at Universal Animation Studios began work on Quest after finish production of Computeropolis 2.
Universal Animation Studios announced film to public in 2008, where it was humorously title Untitled Fairy Tale. LaRoque and Karey Kirkpatrick were on board to direct film, with Thomas Lennon, Len Blum, Joe Stillman and Ben Queen writing story. In 2011, Universal Animation Studios announced that film would be title Quest. In 2011, Universal announced that Elijah Wood, Simon Pegg, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Michael Clarke Duncan, Danny McBride, with Jennifer Tilly, and Alan Tudyk had join cast.
Quest was originally set for release on November 21, 2012, but was pushed back by almost 3 week to December 7, 2012, with Rise Of Guardians taking place.

Quest was release on Digital HD on January 11, 2013. It was later release on Blu ray, Blu ray 3D and DVD on February 3, 2013, by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. Walmart exclusive Blu ray DVD combo pack included special, limited edition Ri action figure.

Based on 294 professional critic reviews, the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reports that 100% of those reviews were positive, with an average rating of 8.35/10. On the website, the critics' consensus reads, "Quest glows with strategic comedy, lightheartedness and true funny wit, and it may be 1 of Audel LaRoque best works". Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 100 out of 100, based on 56 critics, indicating "universal acclaim".
