PlayStation 2 is home video game console that was developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is successor to PlayStation and is 2 installment in PlayStation lineup of consoles. It was release in 2000, and competed with Dreamcast, GameCube and Xbox in 6 generation of video game consoles.
Announced in 1999, PlayStation 2 offered backwards compatibility for it predecessor Dualshock controller, as well as for it games. PlayStation 2 is best sell video game console of all time, selling over 155 million units, with 150 million confirmed by Sony in 2011. More than 3,74 game title have been release for PS2 since launch, and more than 1.5 billion copies have been sold. Sony later manufactured several smaller, light revisions of console known as Slim Line models. In 2006, Sony announced and launch it successor, PlayStation 3.
Even with release of it successor, PlayStation 2 remained popular well into 7 generation and continued to be produced until January 4, 2013, when Sony finally announced that PlayStation 2 had been discontinued after 12 years of production 1 of long run for video game console. Despite announcement, new games for console continue to be produced until end of 2013, including Final Fantasy XI Seekers Of Adoulin for Japan, FIFA 13 for North America, and Pro Evolution Soccer 14 for Europe.
