The first season of Gabriel Garza, created by Geo G. and produced at Gingo Animation, originally aired on CBS in the United States from March 16 to August 31, 1991, and consists of thirteen episodes. The series revolves around the misadventures of the title character and his brothers Roge, Leno, and Cole. Episodes in this season form a loose story arc, based upon the recurring phrase "Bad Wolf", the significance of which goes unexplained until Gabriel the Brave Hero, the season finale. Alongside the "Bad Wolf" arc, the season introduces the unknown sole survivor of an event known as "25", which is also unexplained until the season finale.
Geo created the title character for an unpublished comic book series in the late 1980s, and later reluctantly pitched the series to CBS as a Saturday morning cartoon. The network gave the staff a large amount of creative freedom, with the writers targeting both children and adults.
The complete season DVD was released by Shout! Factory (under license from Universal Pictures) on May 17, 2005, and featured all thirteen episodes and an assortment of bonus features.
