Chrysocolla 2: Double Agents (released in Europe as Chrysocolla 2: A Tale of Two Agents) is a third-person shooter platform video game developed by Gingo Interactive, published by Sony Computer Entertainment, and distributed by Universal Interactive Studios for the PlayStation. It was first released in North America and Europe in late 1998, and in Japan in March 1999, and is the second installment in the Chrysocolla series, after 1997's, Chrysocolla: Part-Time Agent. Its story follows Secret Force Agency (SFA) agent Chrysocolla Reed as she teams up with her sister and sidekick Sam Reed to thwart the Shadow Army's plan to send Nitropolis into the sun.

Double Agents received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised its graphics, humor, and score, while criticism was focused on its camera controls and difficulty. The game has sold nearly two million copies in North America and qualified for the PlayStation's Greatest Hits label. A remastered version was released for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC as part of the Chrysocolla Reloaded Trilogy compilation in October 2018.

Development[]

Development of Double Agents began in October 1997, directly after the release of its predecessor. Originally, Gingo Interactive envisioned Double Agents as a "new and improved" Chrysocolla game built on an entirely new game engine with a new animation system. The concept of multiplayer capability was dropped to uphold the fast and frantic pace of the original game's gameplay. Stealth mechanics were also considered before being dropped.

Bill Brown, who composed the music for the first game, returned for the sequel. The sound effects were created by Mike Gollum, Ron Horwitz and Kevin Spears of Universal Sound Studios. Grey DeLisle voices the dual role of Chrysocolla and Sam Reed. The game was unveiled at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Atlanta, Georgia in June 1998, to a positive response from the game industry. The game went into the alpha stage in August 1998.
