Ama and Mysterious Crystal is 1997 American 2D Animated Fantasy Comedy Adventure Film produced by Universal Animation Studios. 1 feature film from studio, as well as 1 entry in Universal Animated Features canon, it was directed by Michael Wildshill from screenplay by Len Blum, Jonathan Roberts, and John August, and star voices of Christina Ricci, with Hank Azaria, and Patrick Stewart. Film follows Ama, young girl who visit mysterious island known as Crystopia, where she find out that ruthless sorcerer Lordous plan to place spell that captures crystals from island, causing various Crystopian people to become elderly. One of them gives Ama powerful magic crystal that prompts her to save island and defeat Lordous.
Development of Ama And Mysterious Crystal began in 1993, when Wildshill conceived plot. It was Universal Pictures 1 animated film to be produced at it in house feature animation studio, which was by team of form Gingo Animation employee led by Wildshill. Ama And Mysterious Crystal was original release on September 26, 1997, to generally positive reviews from critics, who praised it animation, voice, and story, and earn over $24 million worldwide on it $4 million budget in recent years, film has amassed cult follow. Direct to video sequel titled Return To Crystopia was release in 2000.
