Ama and Mysterious Crystal is 1997 American 2D Animated Fantasy Comedy Adventure Film produced by Universal Animation Studios. 1 feature film from studio, as well as 1 entry in Universal Animated Features canon, it was directed by Michael Wildshill from screenplay by Len Blum, Jonathan Roberts, and John August, and star voices of Christina Ricci, with Hank Azaria, and Patrick Stewart. Film follows Ama, young girl who visit mysterious island known as Crystopia, where she find out that ruthless sorcerer Lordous plan to place spell that captures crystals from island, causing various Crystopian people to become elderly. One of them gives Ama powerful magic crystal that prompts her to save island and defeat Lordous.

Development of Ama And Mysterious Crystal began in 1993, when Wildshill conceived plot. It was Universal Pictures 1 animated film to be produced at it in house feature animation studio, which was by team of form Gingo Animation employee led by Wildshill. Ama And Mysterious Crystal was original release on September 26, 1997, to generally positive reviews from critics, who praised it animation, voice, and story, and earn over $24 million worldwide on it $4 million budget in recent years, film has amassed cult follow. Direct to video sequel titled Return To Crystopia was release in 2000.

Idea and concept for Ama And Mysterious Crystal came from director Michael Wildshill, who sub story to Universal in 1993, and film immediately went into development under work title Legend of Magic Crystal.

Ama And Mysterious Crystal was originally slated for release in 1996, but film release date was changed to September 1997 in order to avoid competition with Space Jam and 101 Dalmatians.

Marketing for film included $40 million spent by Universal for advertising as well as advertisers such as Pizza Hut, Oreo, Kellogg and NBC.

Ama And Mysterious Crystal was release on VHS and Laserdisc on May 26, 1998, and on DVD on April 17, 2001, and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and Blu-ray on October 25, 2022.

Reception of Ama And Mysterious Crystal was well received by critics. Review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes give film score of 100% based on 64 reviews with average rating of 6.7 10. Website consensus reads, excellent animation and crafted funny storyteller make Ama fresh feature length debut for Universal Feature Animation. On Metacritic, film has score of 100 out of 100 points, based on 32 critics, indicating Generally favorable reviews.
